The Casio Exilim EX-S8 Digital Camera- Review

Looking for a sleek digital camera for dad this year? Casio is offering the Exilim EX-S8 as an easy-to-use option, in five great colors. We had the opportunity to review the EX-S8 in silver (pictured above- all photos for the remainder of this review have been taken with the Casio Exilim EX-S8).

Some great features of the Exilim EX-S8 include:

♥ 12.1 mega pixels and 4x zoom with sharp focus
♥ Compact, light-weight style with a width of only 0.78".
♥ Best Shot Mode helps you get great shots, including an option that doesn't activate the shutter to start until the object moves into view
♥ Face detection to keep the main subjects of the photos sharp, even in less than optimal lighting
♥ Records movies in widescreen, and has a YouTube Capture Mode, which saves movies at the ideal settings to easily upload them to YouTube
♥ Customizable frames for your photos that ensure correct focus (the frame breaks up if the picture is out of focus)

Of course, the first thing I took shots of was my son. I could see the clarity of the photos in different settings with these.

The last set of photos I took were outdoors, in shadow. Here we are in the car, with my husband driving. I'm not sure what my son was fascinated by (the light was not on, lol) but clearly, despite different objects at different distances in this photo, and the movement outside the door of constant new objects coming in and out of the shot, the subject (my son) is very clear. The Exilim EX-S8 has a smile and face recognition feature that makes sure the main focus is always sharp and clear:

The Casio Exilim EX-S8is very affordable at less than $150 (Amazon is offering it for a great price right now) and is a great choice for Father's Day. The menu is easy to navigate, it features a large 2.7 inch monitor, and it's basic enough that dad can start using it as soon as the rechargeable battery is charged, without having to juggle with the instructions or menu too much. We were really pleased with how simple to use it was (my dad is tech-challenged, he would never want a camera as a gift that was anything more than point and shoot).

New graduates would enjoy it as a gift also (they need something to immortalize their summer parties and travels), and if you like to put videos of your children on YouTube for your family to enjoy, you may actually find this to be a great choice for yourself.
