A Year With God- Book Review

A Year With God: Daily Readings and Reflections On God's Own Words by R.P. Nettelhorst is a 365-day daily reader arranged by topics that highlights God's words to his people. By reading what He speaks about to His people, we know what mattered to Him and what we are to focus on in our lives. The Bible is full of wisdom and advice for our travels through life that bring us peace if we follow its directions, and this book is Nettelhorst's interpretation of 365 passages from the Bible.

A Year With God features a daily passage from the Old Testament, followed by a short essay explaining the passage. I greatly enjoyed reading through the book, at least the Bible passages, but I'm not so sure I agree with all of the author's interpretations. For example, one part of the Bible says a man who divorces a woman can not remarry her if she remarries. I'm not sure if this means he can not marry her if she already has a husband, or if he can't marry her because she is now attached to someone else (even if her new husband has passed on), but the author says this is because God intends for marriage to be forever, and for divorce to be forever too. Really? Then marriage isn't really forever.

Most of this book is very good, and I especially enjoyed the parts about faith. For me, this book is more about enjoying reading some wonderful Bible passages and pondering them, and reading one man's interpretation as food for thought- but not necessarily as a guide for me to follow without thinking about it first. A Year With God is available for about $11 on Amazon and ships free with orders over $25.

  1. Thanks for the honest review. I appreciate it more when the review says the good and bad, and not just praises of an item.
