The Maclaren Twin Techno Double Stroller

Maclaren Twin Techno in Black on Black
If you have multiple children three and under, you (like millions of moms across America) at some point have or will shop for a double stroller. I belong to a local Stroller Strides group, and how to find quality, safe, and easy to use strollers, especially when you have multiple children, is a topic that has dominated conversations. Many of us were looking for an easy-to-use, easy-to-store, comfortable, safe double stroller.  We recently had the opportunity to review the Maclaren Twin Techno, and we love this stroller!
First, the technical stuff at a glance:
* Made of high performance aluminum, phthalate and lead free
* Weight is 27.3 lbs and fits through standard doorways, dimensions are 31"x30"x44"
* Appropriate from birth (0+ months), up to 110 lbs total weight
* 5 point safety harness, extendable legrest, 5 position seat recline
* Water-resistant, comes with rain cover and UV protected hood window

The Maclaren Twin Techno is easy to use and has lots of great features. I am highlighting our favorite features here:
Compact umbrella fold
♥ It folds up very compactly- it fit inside the trunk of a Toyota Camry and a Honda Accord, alongside a second stroller, car supplies, groceries, and there was still lots of room to spare.
♥ It fits easily through standard doors. You can see from the photos this stroller is not that wide, yet babies sit comfortably in the seats.

Fits through standard doorways
♥ The seats fully recline for sleeping babies, and the leg rest can be adjusted too.
♥ Maneuvering the Twin Techno is easy (we can spin it around in place- perfect for tight spots) and it moves well over various surfaces and sidewalks. We tried moderate jogging with it at Stroller Strides, and while it's not meant to be a jogging stroller, we feel that if you ever find yourself running away from, let's say, a rabid dog, you'll have an easy time with this stroller.
One-hand release safety harness
♥ It's sturdy, has a five-point safety that snaps on in two clicks and comes off in one, and adjusting the canopies and seats are simple and independant functions (one child can be sleeping while the other is sitting up with their feet up).
♥ Lots of cargo space- under the stroller, pockets behind the canopies, and cup holders.
♥ This won't be the deciding factor for most parents, but it doesn't hurt that the Maclaren Twin Techno looks great and is available in a variety of great colors.

At about 27 lbs it's a lighter-weight double stroller, and has the convenience and great maneuverability of a side by side double stroller. Some of the moms had a hard time steering tandem strollers (sits babies one in front of the other instead of side by side). The belt buckle completely opens with one snap- there isn't a separate release on each side- so be aware that releasing the buckle means your child is no longer restrained. This makes life easier if you don't want to deal with too many buckles or want the ease of one-handed release, as long as you don't release it until you are ready to have your child unrestrained. The buckle needs to be pressed on both sides (front and back) at the same time to release the catch, so a child can not release himself. The Maclaren Twin Techno comes with cup holders, rain covers, and storage space to toss some baby items (there is cargo space underneath to puts some shopping bags as well). The handles are close enough that I was able to hang my diaper bag on them.

Overall, we absolutely love, love, love the Maclaren Twin Techno. It's easy to store, easy to use, easy to stroll, and it just makes our busy lives easier. The best part was our little reviewers were comfortable and happy in it, and liked having company sitting next to them.

The Maclaren Twin Techno is available on Amazon for about $380, and currently ships free.

  1. I would have killed for a stroller like that when my four were little bits! Oh how I miss those days. That looks like an awesome stroller though and if I still had little ones I would be all over it.

  4. MacLaren is always awesome! You say it fits through doors, but did you try it in stores at the mall? I seem to have problems in between racks. How did it stack up?

  5. Oh my gosh!!! I want one for my double trouble team but not sure if they both could ride in it based on weight ... Love it! Looks great! Would sure have been better than the jogging stroller I sued that didn't fit in door ways!

  6. That looks like an amazing stroller. I love that it fits through a standard doorway. I've always wondered what the point of those HUGE double strollers was, when there was no way a mom could get in the door to shop, let alone look around.

  7. I've heard really, really great things about MacLarens and this is a fabulous summary of how it really works. I have two toddlers and I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for a new double stroller :)

  8. I'm really impressed that it fits through doorways -- I've been hesitant to buy a side-by-side b/c I wasn't sure about how well I could fit through doors/aisles.

LOVE the UV protection -- that's a big plus for me (in Houston where it's hot & sunny most of the year).

  9. Lee, I wouldn't try to fit it between racks while shopping, but then I wouldn't do that with a single stroller either. Shops smush them too close together.

In small spaces, it performed well. It is able to be spun around in place, so maneuvers well in elevators and narrow hallways.
