Ralph Lauren and the RL Gang

Earlier this evening I went to my first BlogHer 2010 event, and the one I was looking forward to the most, at the Ralph Lauren Reading Room in NYC. There, in the midst of a cozy lounge area where equestrian artwork decorated the plaid walls, we drank champagne, ate cupcakes from Crumbs, and watched two short films about RL. The first film featured Ralph Lauren himself discussing his motivation for his brilliant design work, and the second was a film version of the new children's book by Ralph Lauren Childrenswear called The RL Gang.

I adore Ralph Lauren clothing. When I worked as a pharmacist, I wore RL apparel often, because the image it evokes is classic with a bit of a conservative and traditional edge. Now that I have a son, I find I dress him in Polo regularly, and friends and family (knowing my love for RL) gift him with Polo for babies. What is cuter than a handsome little boy in a baby rugby sleeper? I don't just dress him in RL for church or parties either. He outgrows his clothing so fast that I decided he may as well always wear his best clothes, since soon he won't be able to wear it at all. My favorite outfit for him is a Ralph Lauren navy Polo shirt and blue and white striped pants with a yellow belt. He looks quite dashing in it!

The speaker for the night was David Lauren, son of Ralph Lauren. It was clear the pride he had for his hardworking, self-made father, and the success that came from his ambition and drive. RL designs from dreams- he sees an image, and he creates clothing to bring that image to life, whether it be a safari look, or strolling through the south of France. If he sees it, he makes it. Ralph Lauren's humble beginnings and the tale of how he succeeded are really interesting, and I would love to share them in a future post. For now, I will say that I'm very proud to be a brand ambassador for such a fine American company.

Overall, it was just a wonderful evening. RL's staff and designers are warm and friendly, the atmosphere was intimate and relaxed, and it was clear that RL employees are more like family- they love going to work and enjoy working together. At the end of the evening, little man was gifted with a new navy Polo shirt, which was perfect because he is outgrowing his current one.

**The evening event was sponsored by Ralph Lauren and coordinated by Mom Central. RL generously gave guests who attended gifts.
