One of the most fun aspects of having a son is getting to watch my husband and son lovingly interact and have a good time together. There is definitely a special bond between a father and son, and when they are playing together my husband acts like a kid again and has a blast teaching him new things. He is very much looking forward to all the things that come along with having a son, such as playing baseball, collecting comics, and building train sets- the things my husband did while growing up.
We recently had the opportunity to review the Thomas Wooden Railway Roundabout Station from Learning Curve's Thomas and Friends Early Engineers line, which I was thrilled about because we really want to begin collecting a train set for little man. Thomas and Friends products from the Early Engineers line are designed for smaller hands, with a train that is a bit bigger so toddlers can grasp it more easily, and an easier to put together set. The Roundabout Station set comes with a circular track, a wooden Early Engineers Thomas train (which features a magnet to attach it to other cars of the train set), a crossing gate, the Maithwaite Station destination, a little tree, and a red spinny thing (I have no idea what it is, but it's actually little man's favorite piece because he loves spinning it). The base has openings to fit all the pieces snugly in, and a molded track to move the engine on.
There is something very old-fashioned and fun about a great train set in a boy's room, and it can both stretch the imagination as well as bring out the creativity in a young boy who has the opportunity to both put the various parts of the set together and then play with his creation. We are looking forward to expanding this set for little man, but in the meantime the Roundabout Station a great starter piece because tots can make the train go around on the roundabout track (because it's a continuous circular piece) until they can add more pieces to the collection and extend the tracks. The track ends are molded to fit securely to other parts of the entire set, and are also designed so that the engine can move along on its wheels smoothly when being pushed by little munchkins. It's well-made and attractively designed, so once we have the completed set put-together on a table it will also be a beautiful centerpiece in little man's room.
