The Complete Book of Baby Bargains- Review

On a tight budget? One a super-tight budget? With a baby on the way? The Complete Book of Baby Bargains offers tips that will satisfy even the most frugal tight wad, from the early days of planning (before baby has even arrived) through the end of baby's first year and into the future. Beginning with tips to save during the maternity months, TCBOBB can save you a great deal of money by recommending ways to cut back, reuse, or shop, and even tells you what to skip altogether
as you prepare for your life-altering (and usually expensive) new blessing.

Many of the tips in the book are very useful, such as xxx and xxx. There are over 1,000 tips (1,016 to be exact), so needless to say there will be those you find useful and have never thought of, and others that don't quite fit your needs. There are some that were just too frugal for me, but tips such as #4, suggesting you buy a body pillow at Wal-Mart for $10 instead of maternity pillow, would have actually saved me about $45 had I known Wal-Mart carried body pillows (a necessity for me in my last trimester- and yes, we paid about $55 for it). I also loved the how-to-make-your-own-activity-mat for babies...I recall thinking "I could have made this" when we got one for little man.

There are many tips on when to shop at specific stores (such as Target, the Gap, Gymboree), what kind of deals they offer when, etc to help organize your shopping and guard your wallet even more. A great deal of the book, in fact, is dedicated to finding bargains on-line on ebay or at retail stores, detailing their policies and sale schedules, instructing how to get further discounts, etc. Some tips are more for convenience than saving money (such as tip #22 advising to send Thank You cards before your baby arrives, because afterwards you won't have much time to do so- not a money saving tip, but good advice).

For the very frugal who find saving money to be an art form (you know who you are!) there are tips that squeeze a penny until it screams. I'm not sure about buying used cloth diapers (even at rockbottom prices) or making my own Tucks pads (the price of generic Tucks is about the same as making it home-made), but with over 1,000 tips, I didn't expect each one to suit me. There are probably women reading this and saying "But why even buy the generic of Tucks when you can possibly make it with products you already have at home?"

The Complete Book of Baby Bargains retails for about $12.99, but if you'd like a bargain, it's available on Amazon for a couple dollars less and ships free :)
