Naturepedic's No-Compromise™ Organic Cotton Ultra 252 Crib Mattress- Review

naturepedic no compromiseBefore my son was born, I was obsessed with putting together the perfect, safest crib. Babies spend most of their first year eating and sleeping (over 70% of their early life is spent sleeping and playing on a mattress), and I wanted to give my son the best, so I ate organically, and I decided that everything he slept and played on would be healthy and safe. I bought organic sheets, removed any bumpers and bedding his well-meaning grandmas put in the crib (suffocation risk), and would only buy a standard crib with non-toxic paint...no drop-side. I built the safest sleep oasis from the ground up. I'm very overdue in writing about the mattress we have in his crib, that he's been happily sleeping on for almost six months, because this is probably my favorite part of his sleeping quarters.

naturepedic organic mattress
Naturepedic makes a totally organic, safe, firm mattress that is perfect for your little blessing. The Naturepedic No Compromise Organic Cotton Classic 252 Crib Mattress, made in the USA, is constructed of certified organic materials and fillers, and really is comparable to a luxury adult mattress. Made with 252 orthopedic innerspring coils, it is appropriately firm, as recommended for babies to reduce the risk of SIDS.

When I first became pregnant and joined a local mommy group, this was our dream mattress. We weren't sure if it was worth the extra money, as other mattresses were more affordable, but they seemed so flimsy and were made with lesser quality materials. Because of how much time babies slept in their first year of life, we decided this was worth researching and we started to compare different mattresses. Naturepedic kindly sent us one to review for our group project, and it is without a doubt worth every penny. There is a reason the Naturepedic No Compromise Organic Mattress is more expensive than other mattresses...actually, there are lots of reasons.

This mattress will go the extra mile. It will last for all your children, it is sturdy, waterproof (it's been tested in the last six months, but not intentionally, lol), stain resistant, and very easy to clean. It's designed to provide a healthy sleep environment, and for this reason is made with non-toxic fire protection, and the organic cotton surface is coated with 100% polyethylene (not PVC- which for some reason is everywhere these days in baby products, despite being considered a hazardous material). The filling is certified organic cotton- unbleached, untreated while it is grown, harvested, and turned into these fabulous mattresses. No chemicals, pesticides, hazardous materials were ever used in the production of Naturepedic No Compromise mattresses. It is available in two styles, traditional (picture below, which we received, featuring a decorative trim), and seamless, with no entry points for mostiure or dust mites, for an even more hygienic design.

safe crib mattress
There are no allergenic materials in the construction (no latex, wool) and the dimensions are 27.75" W x 52" D x 6" H with squared corner, so it fits all standard cribs snugly (no worries about baby slipping through the sides). If you have a convertible crib, Naturepedic's No Compromise crib mattress will serve as a fabulous toddler mattress for your baby's first bed. Also comes in an optional dual firmness mattress, firmer on one side for infants and less firm on the other for a toddler bed, but the regular mattress is so fabulous that it will do a good job for both as well.

Despite spills and overnight accidents, I have not had any problems wiping down or cleaning the mattress as a result of the easy to clean premium organic cotton waterproof cover. It looks as good as the first day we saw it. Because this mattress is hypoallergenic, you also don't really have to worry about your child having problems with allergies that may result from other mattress that become dusty, contain latex or hazardous materials, harbor dust mites, etc. Bassinets or cribs that have polyurethane foam mattresses are a potential fire hazard, lose their shape over time, stain easily, and may let off unpleasing and potentially hazardous fumes, especially in very warm climates.

The mattress and crib you choose for your baby is one of the most important items, and worth spending more one. Like the stroller and car seat, you should research the options and make the best, safest choice you can. The Naturepedic No Compromise Organic Cotton crib mattress is definately our choice for the mattress- little man is worth it!

  1. Wow, this looks so nice... and I have no doubt it's worth the extra money. I bought a cheap one for my daughter's crib and I know it can't be very comfortable. I think for her toddler bed I'm going to look into getting one of these. Thanks so much for sharing - I didn't know Naturepedic had crib mattresses!
