GlassesUSA- Review

glassesusa
I recently got a new pair of eyeglasses, because a newborn baby and contacts do not necessarily mix well all the time. I found myself being so exhausted that I'd fall asleep with my contacts still on, and during the night when little man would stir, I couldn't see him that well when I checked on him unless I put my contacts on (and then I couldn't get back to sleep).

I was at a point that I was wearing my contacts more than 14 hours a day, and sometimes 24 hours if I fell asleep with them on. My eye doctor told me capillaries were growing across my eyes because of the lack of oxygen to the surface (from constant contact lense wear). I also wasn't seeing that well anymore, and I wasn't sure if I needed a new prescription or was just overwearing my lenses.

I decided it was time to (for the first time in my life) get a pair of glasses, if only to wear around the house. GlassesUSA is a company that sells very affordable glasses online with the lense prescription already included in the price (they are more affordable than glasses I've found at optical boutiques by far). They offered to let me review their service for others to learn about, so I had my eyes checked with my eye doctor for an eyeglass prescription, and sent GlassesUSA.com the information and my frame choice (denver gray). I was sent back a pair of prescription glasses that look pretty good, considering I chose them off the internet (ignore my bad hair day in the photo). I actually measured my sunglasses and looked for glasses the closest size (their site tells you the length and wide of the frames and lenses).

My main error of course was that sunglasses are always bigger than your regular glasses, so I chose a pair that is a tad too wide, but for use around the house they are fabulous (my husband actually like them a lot, and encourages me to wear them so my eyes rest).

Glasses are a great idea for parents. I can now put them on as soon as I wake up, while reading before I go to bed, have them ready before and after my shower, and pop them on for midnight checks on little man. I really love them, and I'm wearing them right now as I type. Amazingly, despite the fact that little man grabs my earrings and lips and hair, he doesn't grab my glasses (then again, he doesn't grab for my eyes either), so while I worried about this when considering eye glasses, it was never an issue once I had them.

GlassesUSA has a great range of glasses, and you can search based on gender, shape of glasses, and other significant criteria. The glasses came very quickly, and I'm very happy with their service. My one complaint is that they did not send a confirmation of the glasses I ordered. While I see well out of them, it would have been nice to have an invoice confirming the strengths of the lenses they made for me. The glasses were sent with a hard protective eyeglass case and a wipe, and because of how affordable they are, I am sure I will get all future glasses from them.

GlassesUSA is running a promotion: take 10% off your next order of prescription glasses by using the code Blog10 in the shopping cart section of your order. This is a great time to stock up on an extra pair of glasses just in case. If you need help making your selection or have general questions, you may send an email to service@glassesusa.com (their staff is trained to help you make the best selection). This sale does not expire.

  1. It's funny how I have just now come to the same decision. BTW you look very cute in your glasses. Thanks for the review, I will be checking out the company.

I have been wearing contacts for over 20 years. In the past 5 years I have been wearing them continuously. I only take them out when my eyes get sore. I Know, I know bad for my eyes. At my last eye exam (3 months ago) I was informed I am now on the verge of needing bifocals...ugh! If I have my contacts IN I can't thread a needle. However, if I take them OUT them I can thread a needle just fine.
So just three days ago I went looking for glasses and seeking out prices. I found a pair I really like that I think I *could* wear all the time, but they are over $200! Yikes!
