Little Man Ready For Solid Foods?

According to my ParentingWeekly e-newsletter, little man shows the signs of being ready for solids...he holds his head up, he sometimes even sits up, his tongue reflex has almost disappeared entirely, and he is fascinated when he sees anyone eating. His pediatrician, however, reminded me that "Breast is best" and asked that we wait one more month (until he is six months old) to start him on solids. That is fine with us.

He is almost 5 months old, is about 17 1/2 pounds, and 26 1/2 inches (a tad over the 90th percentile). We recently received the Sesame Street high chair from Kolcraft, which he loves. We suspect it's partially because he is elevated- he loves to be held high all the time, and eschews walkers or laps or anything that brings him to seat level or lower- but as you can see from these pics, he is fascinated with the cartoons on the padding. We couldn't get him to smile for the camera. We've been practicing having him sit in it, to get him ready for solids, so now I guess we get to practice for a whole other month. We've even been stocking up on Earth's Best and Sprout organic baby foods (I was going to try making baby food at home, but I feel so overwhelmed with everything else I do, that I decided to just stick with buying organic and all natural baby foods that are ready-made instead).

So we have the Sesame Street high chair, the Sassy first spoon and bowl, and the baby foods (veggies- as per What to Expect the First Year's advice) all ready for next month, when we see his pediatrician and ask again. In the meantime, his new high chair is better than any seat or bouncer at keeping him happy while he sits in one spot.

(Our Kolcraft Sesame Street high chair is available at KMart for about $45)
