Wubbanubs- Review

Wubbanub pacifiers
What is a Wubbanub? It's a cute pacifier with a little critter attached. Wubbanubs were invented by mom Carla Schneider during a family trip, as a cure for "missing pacifier syndrome"...she used the hotel's sewing kit to attach her baby's favorite plush toy to the pacifier, and a new idea was born. Wubbanubs are made with Soothie pacifiers (the pacifiers preferred in hospitals for newborns) which are made of one silicone piece, so there is no danger of pieces breaking off. A small, lightweight plush critter holds the tab of the Soothie in its mouth, and contains small polyurethane beads in its hands and feet to give it some weight.

The Soothie my son got from the hospital was the only pacifier he liked (we tried many others). The problem is we'd keep losing them. Soothies don't have a loop to clip them anywhere, and I would never attach a string to them to keep them in place (heaven forbid it accidentally wraps around little man). This is what makes Wubbanubs very useful.

Why I love Wubbanubs:

* They keep the pacifier in place. If your baby is sleeping or laying down, the critter has little beads inside to give it a bit of weight, so it stays in place on your baby's chest. Even if your baby falls asleep, the pacifier stays near his mouth so when he wakes up he can find it easily (see photo of my niece below).

* They are easy to find if your child keeps losing or tossing their pacifiers. A pacifier may fall under the couch, or slip under your baby, but the Wubbanub can't get too far.

* They are easy for your child to grip. Little man was able to hold the Wubbanub, even before 3 months of age, to grasp it, to push it closer to his mouth, etc. It helped him learn to direct things to his mouth with his hands (now he does it with everything).

* Wubbanubs are cute, and come in lots of different styles (monkeys, dogs, frogs, etc).

My niece is a about nine weeks older, and this photo shows that the Wubbanub is able to hold the pacifier in her mouth while she sleeps:

The only problem I had was that my son kept wanting to play with and chew on the critter as well, so make sure your little one doesn't do that. He puts everything in his mouth, as do most babies, and I have to keep an eye on him.

Wubbanubs are machine washable (put in a mesh bag and toss in with your baby's laundry) and the one piece construction of the Soothie means that germs have no place to hide (no cracks or crevices). Wubbanubs usually retail for about $12-15 each and are available at Amazon.com and various retail baby stores.

  1. These sound great. My nephew is almost three months and I have already had the problem of misplacing his pacifier quite a few times. Something like this just might work. I love the different animials that you can choose from. Thanks for the review :)

  3. Those are adorable! Cool that they work well with the soothie. Do they hang on to the gumdrops as well? We used the gumdrop most of the time with my youngest because it was less bulky but had the same nipple.
