The Loung Doctor- Review

Ever have tired feet, swollen ankles, aching legs? I know when I was pregnant, in the last few months, my legs and feet were very tired and swollen from all the extra weight I was carrying. I'd sometimes try to lie down for a while and elevate my legs on pillows, and I even tried changing my diet (cutting out salt) because toward the very end, my poor feet and ankles were a disaster.

A product I would have really appreciated then, but didn't learn about until recently, is the Lounge Doctor. The Lounge Doctor is a leg rest that is contoured to fit your body from the mid-thighs down, and elevates your legs easily and comfortably. It is also designed to prop the legs up at a specific angle that maximizes venous and lymphatic drainage, and lowers the pressure within veins and capillaries. It comes in three sizes, depending on your height, and comes with a washable cover that is available in khaki or blue. I had the opportunity to try it out in khaki, size small to fit my petite size.

Using pillows alone puts all the pressure on the calves and heels (and possibly decreases blood flow through them), and less support along the back of the knees and ankles. I was surprised by what a difference having a contoured leg rest makes in terms of effectiveness. I've propped my feet up before with pillows, even used an oversized foam wedge once, but the uniform pressure provided by the Lounge Doctor makes it a great deal more comfortable. The contour of the Lounge Doctor equally distributes pressure along the legs, as you can see in this photo:

The Lounge Doctor is a great product for:

* Pregnant women, especially in the last trimester, to relieve some of the pressure from the extra weight and help promote circulation in the legs (maybe less spider veins as a result as well).

* Elderly parents or anyone who has bad circulation or retains lots of water in their lower legs (like my grandmother).

* Anyone who works very long hours and needs to put their feet up after work to relieve the aches (like my mother-in-law).

* Anyone who plans to undergo surgery, to prevent blood clots and encourage optimal circulation

* Anyone recuperating from an injury and on bedrest.

My mother-in-law works more than ten hours a day on her feet at her job. She came by one evening while I was trying the Lounge Doctor leg rest out, said "That is what I need!" (so now I don't have a Lounge Doctor anymore). My mom and grandmother want one too (and I'd really like to have one for my next pregnancy), so luckily, they are pretty affordable. The one I reviewed is about $60. The Lounge Doctor also makes a Lounge Doctor Leg Rest II with memory foam for extra comfort.

  2. What a innovative product! When I was pregnant, I worked 10 hour days the whole way through, and was so swollen by the end of each day. This looks like it definitely would've helped!

  6. My ankles and feet (and sometimes legs) swell around my 7th month mark in pregnancy. It is horrible and painful! This would be a life saver for me when I get pregnant again! Thanks for the information on it!
