The First Years True Fit™ Rebound Convertible Car Seat (C670)- Review

The First Years True Fit Rebound Convertible Car Seat from Learning Curve, designed for babies and children from 5-65 lbs., was recently awarded a 5-star Ease of Use Rating from the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration (its highest rating). It offers greater safety in the case of an accident by two methods: first, by its Rebound Energy Management System, which helps reduce the risk of broken bones in a serious car accident for rear-facing passengers, and second, by being so easy to correctly install and adjust.
Convertible Carseat
The main reasons a carseat may fail to protect a child in an accident is because the carseat was either improperly installed, or the carseat was not correctly adjusted for the child, with the shoulder straps and safety harness improperly fitted. The True Fit carseat helps keep your child safer as a result of being extremely easy to install into the backseat of your car, and easy to adjust to fit your child, reducing risks of both serious and minor injuries.

Some of the great features of the True Fit Rebound:

* Features a flip-up rebound bar that helps manage the rebound during a crash when rear-facing
* Side-impact tested to international standards
* Easy to install, decreasing the chances of incorrect installation
* Multi-position recline whether forward or rear-facing (only convertible car seat to offer this)
* Seat is fully lined with EPP foam and features deep side wings, comfortable padding, and a removable headrest
* No re-threading is required (This is a big one for us...our infant carseat was a bit of a nightmare)
* Easy-to-read angle indicator for rear-facing position
* Offers important basic safety features, such as a 5-point safety harness
* Can be used in the rear-facing position for up to 35 lbs (it is generally recommended to use carseats in the rear-facing position for a long as possible)
* Can be used in the forward-facing position up to 65 lbs and 50 inches
* Seat pad snaps on and off for easy cleaning

We had the opportunity to review the True Fit Rebound Convertible C670 Carseat recently. The seat and headrest fabric is a soft, suede-like material and the harness and seat pads display the Retro Geo Urban pattern (it's available in many other patterns as well). It is heavily padded, with an extra, very comfortable, removable lumbar/seat pad for your littler passengers :), and once removed, a nicely cushioned seat for older passengers. In addition to making the ride more enjoyable for children, I always like extra padding because I feel it absorbs some of the impact in an accident, so there is less risk of breaks, bruises, whiplash, etc. The extra pad for babies and smaller children helps keep them very snugly in place in the carseat.

My husband had no difficulty installing the True Fit in his car. We especially loved how easy it was to adjust the height of the shoulder straps (with tabs on either side of the carseat). It's pretty difficult to make any mistakes, because everything is labelled very clearly (lift here, pull, etc), making adjustments in the harness tension and height, the shoulder height, and the recline all very simple. There is a removable headrest with padded side wings as well (my son is too young for this, so we stored it away for now), and when the Rebound Management Bar is not being used for rear-facing passengers, it becomes a recliner stand for forward-facing passengers.

Our favorite thing about this carseat? My son is happy in it. He always cries when we put him in his infant carseat or bouncer, but he was very comfortable in this as soon as we put him in, with nary a whimper. In fact, he kept right on cooing and laughing, just as he was moments before we put him in.

The First Years True Fit Convertible Car Seat weighs less than 19 lbs and is able to accommodate a child up to 50 inches. It usually retails for approximately $269.99 and is available at many major retail chains for babies (currently $249 on Amazon).

  1. The true fit and the my ride 65 are 2 of the highest reviewed convertible seats I've seen mentioned on the web. Radians are great too.

I would like to get a True Fit for my baby. Amazon has one of the true fit models for only $149. Still more expensive than the My Ride 65, but I figure it's worth it to have the ease of adjusting the strap level without having to take off the cover. Plus, being able to take off the top of the seat when it's rear facing means more room for the person sitting in front of the seat.

Congratulations on getting to review such a great product!

  2. Morgan, it really is worth it. My son was so unhappy in his infant carseat until we got it rethreaded right, and we have to keep doing it as he grows.

  3. I wish I had known about this car seat when my youngest was smaller. We had such an awful time finding a car seat that was safe, easy to install, and comfortable for her. It seemed like no matter what car seat I tried she was unhappy.

Great review...I will definitely keep this car seat in mind to tell my friends with small babies!

  9. That sounds like a fantastic car seat. I know that the one I currently have is a pain to adjust properly and I love hearing that this one is easy to adjust (not to mention the extra safety features)!! What a great product to review!!

  10. My son hated the car seat we had for him when he was a baby. This car seat looks and sounds super comfortable. I'll keep it in mind if I ever have another little one.

  11. I love that there is no rethreading needed! I also love that it can recline while forward facing. My daughter is only 18 months so she's still rear facing, but that's great to know when we finally turn her around.
