My Terrific Sister-In-Law

My terrific sister in law, who is getting married herself next year to a wonderful man, is throwing me a baby shower. I didn't expect it (in my family, we don't have them, so I didn't bother registering for anything). Now I get to have the fun of going to BuyBuyBaby (a store I'm really fond of now) and actually organizing all my needs in one place. Looking at baby supplies is work that is incredible fun...I imagine my little bunchkin wearing this, bathing in that, strolling around in that...lots of fun!

I already registered for some great products I tried and love (I blogged about some, and will post about other great finds too) and now I'm looking into different strollers, car seats, and cribs...sooo many options! So many new safety (and non-safe) features! It takes time to wade through it all, but it's very interesting and fun for me.

I'm trying to mainly get organic bedding and apparel, though I still don't know the sex of the baby. I'm getting a tad weary of the yellows and greens, lol, and don't fancy the idea of my baby always wearing lime, so I'll probably look for whites, navies, and reds, which are unisex and flattering to all.

Registering is a lot of fun, and any tips and recommendations would be appreciated, by myself, and my friends who are expecting also (we are a large group of women, and we are constantly looking for new information and reviewing new things).

I feel very lucky...and can't wait to throw a baby shower for my sister-in-law one day too!

  4. During the registration it is very easy to get caught up in the "Oh I want that" stage, but think about what you realistically will use! Onesies are the most versatile baby outfit ever. And slings are one of the greatest things ever!

  6. How exciting! You are going to have a great time :-)

Baby showers just aren't customary in the UK, so I have missed out three times!!! lol.

My number one tip would be a "boppy", particularly if you plan to nurse!

  7. How fun! Sounds like you have a great sister-in-law.

By the way, I surprisingly found some great sheets at Target that are organic. They have some organic towels too.

Found you through SITS. Glad I did!

  9. I'm not a mom and don't intend to be, but I've registered for my housewarming party and it's so much fun. Especially now that stores have those electronic scanners. You can simply hit the stores and scan anything you like. You'll have a blast. And you're assured of getting things you actually like.

  10. It's so easy to get overwhelmed with everything, especially with your first baby. I'm glad you're having fun with it and not feeling like you NEED so much stuff. Babies don't really require a ton of things and they grow so fast, you probably won't even get around to them wearing half the clothes you get.
Slings, pouches, and wraps are great for a registry, various types of diapers, bath supplies, baby skin care items, car seat, nursing pillow, maybe even a nursing stool, etc.

  13. Having your first child is such a joyous occasion and it is beyond all words that I could ever say to you. My daughter is 16 now, but I can recount every second of giving birth and relish in every second I have been her mother. I have never and will never do anything as wonderful as I did when I brought Alyssa into the world. I wish you every happiness and look forward to the beautiful baby pics!

  14. The first baby is exciting, isn't it? That's awesome that your SIL is throwing you a baby shower. I absolutely loved the shopping part of being pregnant, but I suppose that's just the over-analyzing part of me. If you need any tips at all, don't hesitate to shoot me an email at typeamommyblog(at)gmail(dot)com - I can share what I learned with you, between the other moms I talked to, some really great websites I found online and of course, Consumer Reports. Hope you're enjoying your pregnancy as much as you can! BTW, stopping by from SITS today. :)

  21. Hi,
Congratulations to you and your family.
I personally did not register for any baby clothes, they grow so fast. Cloth diapers are great for everything, not just diapering.
    Have fun!!

  23. Awwwww. I wish I had a great sister-in-law like you do. My sister-in-law is 15. :) My best suggestion is have a mother who has a 2 or 3 year old review your list of stuff that you put on the list. I did this for a good friend of mine to make sure she got rid of the fluff items that she wouldn't really need or use.

I had a great time scanning items in at Babies'R'us when I was preggo with my little guy.
