Hedges- Loving Your Marriage Enough To Protect It

Save Your Marriage book
I often read about marriages falling apart due to infidelity, whether it be on the part of the husband or wife. In fact, it seems lately that cheating is rampant. I always wonder how seemingly wonderful, decent people ever get to a point where they begin to lie to the people they love most, for a person who doesn't seem that great, and are even willing to throw away years of marriage and the respect of their peers and children for an illicit relationship.

I'm a member of AFA (American Family Association), and I subscribe to their monthly newsletter. They often recommend great books and movies that are family-friendly or family-supportive. They mentioned a book called Hedges: Loving Your Marriage Enough to Protect Itby Jerry B, Jenkins, which sounded fabulous. I decided to purchase it, and am so glad I did! It is a fabulous book that basically deconstructs the break-down of communication, integrity, and the small things that lead a person in a loving marriage along the path to becoming another statistic.

If you are dating, married, or starting over, this is a great book to read (with your partner or without). If you have been affected by adultery, or succumbed to it, this is also a great book...it will explain to you how you even started down this path, so you don't again (temptations are everywhere, especially today when men and women work side by side, for long hours, often away from home, all the time!).

Tips like "Don't carpool alone with a member of the opposite sex" may sound strict, but it's incredible how many affairs start from simply being alone with someone for twenty minutes, talking about your family and personal life, day after day. Great advice from the author includes "If you strive to prevent the appearance of wrong, you prevent wrong". He's right. If you take care of how things look, you take care of how things are.

To take a peek at this book (I really recommend it! Strong families and marriages are important for our children, and who doesn't want to go the distance if you have a great catch?) visit Amazon: Hedges: Loving Your Marriage Enough to Protect It.It's a pretty quick read (or maybe it was for me, because I devoured it within days) and filled with "ah!" moments, that explain why it seems everywhere today marriages are crashing and burning all around us, even the best of marriages.

  1. Sounds like a book that all married couples should add to their daily reads, "ah ha" moments included.

  2. Sounds like a book every pastor should have couples read together and take a quiz on before they get married. Premarital couples counseling should be mandatory as far as I'm concerned.
